Fornication: Everything You Should Know

“Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.” 1 Corinthians 6:18-20

Based on the verse stated above, committing sexual acts with a person who hasn’t receive the sacrament of matrimony is a sin. There is a correct term for this wrongdoing, which is fornication. This wrongful sexual act is defined as concordant sexual intercourse between two individuals that are not yet married. Fornication is typically mistaken for adultery. In order to cease the confusion, the former refers to unmarried people committing sex while the latter refers to either or both the married couple engaging in sexual acts with people outside the marriage.

Fornication in the Bible

The Holy Scripture firmly prohibits fornication, mainly in the Old Testament. The term deciphered for the wrongdoing of fornication is what also idolatry means based on what is found in Hebrew. In other words, fornication is being linked with the reverence of idolater figures, a lot of which performed traditions and rituals that entailed types of diverged sexual intercourse.

Paul and the one who wrote Hebrews typically pointed out that fornication is definitely forbidden, which is found in the New Testament. According to Colossians 3:5, “Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.” The verse refers to Paul instructing people to never allow their bodies to be free and do whatever they desire. Instead, they should live according to the Lord’s wants and will for their lives. Paul mentioned 5 particular sins that every Christian who will commit such acts is being executed in their own bodies.

Based on what’s written in 1 Corinthians 5:1, unlawful sexual activities — such as prostitution, illicit contact, or lascivious conduct, are deemed to be fornication. However, this forbidden sexual activity is commonly entwined and, sometimes, differentiated in the Holy Scripture.

Committing illicit sexual affairs without receiving the sacrament of marriage is completely fornication. Thus, premarital sex and other forms of sexual conduct that are outside the realm of marriage are sins. Society, in this day and age, somehow loosens its grip on this particular sin. Many people have engaged in this act; but, little did they know that it is still a dangerous sin to manifest if you look it in the biblical side. Based on what is written in the Bible, no contemporary events and situations can modify, alter, lessen, and invalidate His disapprobation towards fornication.

Fornication in Literature

Literature is an all-embracing platform, which gives each important aspect in this world an avenue to teach and transmit essential lessons and messages to people. Christian literature is an important facet of the literary realm, and the Bible is one of the most significant parts of it. Moreover, there are many Christian books that tackle fornication and other factors that revolve around sexual immorality.

A Law from Eden: Solving the Mystery of Original Sin by Marilyn Taplin is the most ideal book to read when it comes to learning about sexual immorality and other aspects revolving around it. The author examines the Holy Scripture to showcase the real original sin, which is neither a great pride nor thirst for wisdom about good and evil. Taplin highlighted the true original wrongdoing is the conduct of sexual pervasion. The misconceptions and misinterpretation of people’s sexuality have brought everyone to this morally evil society, and biblical examination presents the ways that these sexual conducts emerge from the old pagan societies and now manifested in the contemporary LGBT communities. Additionally, it has altered the humans, especially those proclaiming to be Christians, identify their sexualities.

Furthermore, a lot of people think that the world is going in the wrong direction and Jesus teaches us the way to reverse the course and bring back the Garden of Eden to the world. If those claiming to be part of the Christian community get educated about the powerful truth about the real original sin — as well as stop these kinds of sexual affairs and conducts. When that time comes, they will be capable enough to help lead the way in the heaven on this world as sworn by the Lord.

The bottom line is that committing any forms of sexual acts without the sacrament of marriage is sin.
